What We’re Seeing in the Dallas Job Market: October 2026
The numbers below come from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Dallas-Fort Worth Area Economic Summary, published October 5, 2026, covering August 2026. Amy Linn breaks them down in the October 2026 Dallas Market Update.
Office jobs are carrying Dallas-Fort Worth hiring. Professional and Business Services added 24,700 jobs over the year through August 2026, up 3.1%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Dallas-Fort Worth Area Economic Summary published October 5, 2026. That’s more than half of the 43,100 jobs the metro added. If you work in accounting, administration, or customer service, that’s your category, and it lines up with what we’re seeing: three of this edition’s five roles are in accounting. See how we place accounting and finance, administrative, and customer service professionals.
Growth cooled in August, and the metro is still adding jobs. Dallas-Fort Worth job growth slowed to 1.0% in August from 1.3% in July, and the Dallas-Plano-Irving division added 25,300 jobs over the year (0.8%). Employers are hiring at a steadier pace heading into the fourth quarter, so apply while roles like these are open.
More candidates are in the market. The Dallas-Fort Worth unemployment rate was 4.4% in August 2026, up slightly from 4.3% a year earlier and above the national rate of 4.3%. Dallas County had the highest rate of the four largest counties at 4.5%. A bigger candidate pool means more competition for each opening, so working with a recruiter who knows the hiring manager can help your resume get seen.
Accounting skills move between industries. Financial Activities, which covers banks, insurers, and real estate firms, lost 2,900 jobs over the year (0.7%) and was down for the second month in a row. If you’re coming out of a bank or insurer, your AP, AR, and reconciliation skills apply in other settings too, including the nonprofit and dealer-partner roles in this edition.
