3 Tips For Safely Bringing Employees Back to the Office

Your employees have been working remotely since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, but you’re hoping to get them back into the office soon. Whether certain tasks cannot be completed offsite or you miss the sense of togetherness from physically being in the same location, you’re ready to start the conversation.

Of course, safety is your top priority. The last thing you want is a COVID-19 outbreak at your company, so every necessary precaution must be taken. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Restructure Your Workplace

Your office’s current setup — i.e., the one your team used pre-COVID — probably isn’t safe right now. Social distancing measures must be put in place to help employees maintain a safe distance from one another. This could include ensuring desks are at least six feet apart — and installing plexiglass partitions where needed — placing arrows on hallway floors to direct traffic one way, and setting capacity limits in common areas — i.e., the kitchen and conference rooms.

Put Strict Policies in Place

It takes just one irresponsible person to spread COVID-19 throughout your team. Institute new policies that clearly outline expected behaviors and the consequences for failing to follow the rules. Some people might not agree with your strict rules on a personal level, but they must comply while on company grounds.

Consider Keeping Your Team Home Longer

The arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine serves as a light at the end of the tunnel, but it will still be several months until most of the population has the opportunity to get vaccinated. If you don’t need your team back in the office, consider allowing them to work from home until there’s a much lower risk of spreading the virus. You could also consider just having employees with jobs who would benefit from being onsite return right now, instead of your entire staff. Fewer people in the office will make social distancing easier, decreasing the chance of an outbreak.
