Asking These 3 Questions Can Help Keep Your Employees Happy

As the boss, you’re committed to keeping your employees happy. The only problem is, you don’t know how satisfied they are with their jobs.

When you’re around, they always put on a smile, but you’re sure not whether it’s genuine or if they’re saying what they think you want to hear. Show them you genuinely care and want them to be around for the long haul by asking these three questions.

Are you happy with your current job duties?

Both people and jobs often evolve over time. Therefore, it’s important to check in with employees periodically to ensure their current responsibilities still make them happy and align with their future goals.

You might find someone no longer feels like the job they were hired for is the right fit. This could be caused by change within themselves, changes to the position, or both. Regardless, it’s important to find this out as soon as possible, so you can make the necessary adjustments before the person decides to leave the company.

Do you feel like you’ve been properly trained?

No doubt, you have a training program in place for new employees. However, it might not be as robust as you believe. Plus, as job duties evolve, existing employees also need ongoing training.

Instead of assuming people feel thoroughly prepared to do their jobs, it’s important to go straight to the source and ask them. You might learn your new employee onboarding process has some serious gaps or that current employees feel ill-equipped to handle new responsibilities thrown their way.

It’s important to nip this issue in the bud as quickly as possible because it’s frustrating to employees, which causes their work to suffer.

Did you have a good weekend?

Time spent at the office shouldn’t be all about work. Employees should feel like you view them as people  not just a name on a roster.

Show them you truly care by taking an interest in their lives outside of work. On Monday mornings, stop by their desk and ask about their weekend. It might seem simple, but this small gesture will make employees feel valued and help strengthen your bond with them.
