  1. List Only Relevant Information.

    You’re a very skilled professional with many impressive accomplishments, but crowding your resume with irrelevant information makes it harder for the hiring manager to see why you’re the perfect choice. Include only details relevant to the position to keep your resume short and to the point.

  2. Focus on Recent Experience.

    Employers are most interested in your recent accomplishments and work experience, so there’s no need to provide a ton of detail about positions you held a decade ago. If any jobs held more than ten years ago are still relevant to your career objective, simply list them without providing any accompanying bullet points.

  3. Include a Link to Your Online Presence.

    Invite the hiring manager to continue learning more about your fit for the job by including a link to your relevant website, blog or social media presence. This is a great way to provide supplementary information, without expanding your resume to multiple pages.

  4. Don’t Mention References.

    Noting “references available on request” takes up precious space, but adds no value. The hiring manager knows you’ll provide references if you want the job, so stating the obvious isn’t necessary.
