Workplace Safety Shouldn’t Be Taken Lightly

As an employer, you know there’s nothing more important than the safety of your team. It’s your job to provide a safe and healthy work environment where everyone can do their jobs and go home to their families at the end of the day.

Unfortunately, all companies do not make safety a priority. Approximately 4,600 workers were killed on the job in 2012, according to OSHA. Don’t let any of your employees be next.

It’s important to create a company culture where safety is always the main concern. Your team needs to know you value their health more than their productivity output. Remember, your company is made up of people, not robots.

5 Ways to Effectively Promote Workplace Safety

Are you committed to making your company a safe place to work? Implement these five initiatives to make your employees’ well-being your top priority:

Properly Train Your Staff

Require your employees to undergo extensive training to ensure they know how to use all equipment needed to properly do their jobs. Mistakes are imminent when people are forced to operate machinery they’re not familiar with.

Make Safety a Priority

As the boss, you set the tone for the safety standards in your workplace. If you enforce the rules and always put safety first, your team will take them seriously. Leading by example is the best way to show you’re serious about putting safety first.

Hang Signs Throughout the Facility

Post signs instructing workers to wear helmets, wash their hands, stay alert and other actions designed to keep them safe. Include warnings of the risks faced by failing to follow the rules. Sometimes even the most responsible employees need a little reminder.

Regularly Update Equipment

Machines and equipment require regular maintenance to run properly. A failure to provide this upkeep is basically an invitation for a device to malfunction — and possibly cause serious harm.

Offer Safety Incentives

Many companies give bonuses and other perks to high-performing employees. Rather than taking this route, reward those who adhere to the company’s safety standards. You can’t put a dollar amount on the value of your team’s well-being.
